Birthstone of the Month: September is the Sapphire

Think sincerity, truth, faithfulness, nobility.

These are our words for September.

They are all symbolized

by September’s birthstone . . .

the sapphire, the wisdom stone.

Long associated with royalty and romance, this gem. The most

famous royal blue sapphire engagement ring in modern history was

that of Princess Diana’s, now Kate Middleton’s. The Imperial Crown

of State features 17 sapphires.

The sapphire is said to have many properties.

The ancient Persians believed Earth rested on a great sapphire, the

reflection of which gave the sky its blue color. It is also known as a

"royal gem” of truth, sincerity, faithfulness and even long-lasting love.

The sapphire is said to reduce anxiety, stress, depression, and

tension; to facilitate communication and expression; and to augment

loyalty, self expression, and truth.

Because it helps with order and organizing of ideas and

communication, the blue sapphire would be an ideal stone to help an

author write that first book or to help a teacher organize lesson plans.

It would assist students to focus on their studies. It strengthens

mental boundaries.

Todd & Company offers a nice selection of sapphires set in rings,

necklaces, earrings, and bracelets.

We want to remind you that the blue sapphire is the primary gemstone

for men. The sapphire holds up well and will last a lifetime. ( a

hardness of 9 out of 10 on Moh’s Scale – meaning it has excellent

hardness and won’t scratch easily.) The dark blue tones are very

masculine and it is a great color to wear everyday.
